Yoel Díaz Vázquez

(La Habana, Cuba, 1973) Using the video and installation as the main support of his practice, Díaz Vázquez documents the reality of people from different disciplines within their own contexts - urban poets, narrators or frustrated singers - transforming a social reality in a work of art. His work has been presented at the International Biennial of Contemporary Art in Götemborg (2011); Neue Gesellschaft für Bildende Kunst, Berlin (2011); 29th Sao Paulo Biennial (2010); Confluences: Inside Cuban Contemporary Art, National Hispanic Cultural Center, Albuquerque, New Mexico (2009), among others. He was awarded with the Medienpreis der Stadt Barth, Künstlersymposium, Barth, Germany in 2008 and in 2010 was the first finalist of the Visual Arts Scholarship of the Cintas Foundation, Miami, USA. He lives and works in Berlin.
