Massimiliano Gioni (Italy, 1973) is an art critic and curator. He has been directing the Foundation Nicola Trussardi in Milan since 2003 and has been Artistic Director of the New Museum in New York since 2014, while collaborating with various institutions.

Gioni’s exhibitions include Manifesta 5, San Sebastian, Spain (2005); Monument to Now, Deste Foundation, Athens (2004). He was co-curator of Of Mice and Men at the Berlin Biennial (2006); curator of 10,000 Lives, the 8th Gwangju Biennale (2010). In 2003, at the 50th sup edition of the Venice Biennial, he curated The Zone, a new pavilion for Italian contemporary art. Along with these institutional commitments, Massimiliano Gioni carries out independent projects and more flexible activities, With Maurizio Cattelan and Ali Subotnick, he has founded Charley magazine, a publication series on contemporary art. With Cattelan and Subotnick, he also directs The Wrong Gallery, a minuscule, non-profit exhibition space founded in 2001 and originally set in New York, now located at the Tate Modern. In 2013, Gioni was the curator of the 55th Venice Biennale.

A former US editor for Flash Art magazine (2000-2002), Massimiliano Gioni has contributed writings to numerous magazines and catalogues, and has collaborated on many editorial projects.

He has lectured on contemporary art in museums and universities, among which: CCA, Kytakyushu, Japan; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, USA; Institute of Visual Arts, Milwaukee, USA; Yale University, New Haven, USA; New York University, New York, USA; School of Visual Arts, New York, USA.
