(Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1943) Author of several books on historiography and philosophy of art history and on painting of the 16th century. He has been professor at Tufts University and the University of Virginia, as scholar of Renaissance art in Northern Europe and a student of the historiography and philosophy of art history, he has lectured and taught widely in the United States and abroad. Since 1988, he is professor and Chair of Art History at Barnard College, New York.
