(Belgium, 1962). He is a Belgian Filmmaker/artist. Traveling the main festival circuit, from the Berlinale to Sundance, his critically acclaimed films have garnered several Best Director Awards, a ZKM International Media Award (2005), a Spirit Award (2006), the Black Pearl Award (2009), and the  Grand Prize New Media Film Festival (2010), as well as being acquired by NBC Universal, Arte, and Chanel 4. In addition, his works are part of the permanent collections of the Tate Modern and the Centre Georges Pompidou, as well as having been exhibited worldwide. An exploration into media’s mutating collusion with mass perception, Grimonprez’s work is an inspired media archeology that can be envisioned as both the joyful affirmation of a global disengagement, as well as the catalyst of effervescent criticism. In a society where excessive media consumption has redefined the role of the storyteller, what is at stake is how to tell a personal story in a world abundant with images. Grimonprez’s curatorial projects have been exhibited at museums worldwide, such as at the Hammer Museum, the Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich, and the MoMA. Currently diving his time between New York and Brussels, Grimonprez lectures at the School of the Visual Arts and the KASK (Gent) respectively. His next film project "How to Rewind your Dog" is an development with the Flanders Audiovisual Fund and the Media Program.
