Jaime Martínez Luna
Mexico
Originally from Guelatao de Juarez, his academic and intellectual career led him to enunciate the concept of ‘Commonality', a proposal for identifying indigenous people beyond their linguistic criteria. It refers to the type of communal living that is characteristic of indigenous communities, highlighting their live style over their achievement scope. Commonality designates the individual will of being community and it is distinguished by the cyclic repetition, daily and mandatory of this will through the participation in activities of work, power, party and the relation with the land. Martínez Luna has led organizations in defense of the natural resources of the Sierra de Oaxaca and the best use of such reserves by the communities. He recently has published the books "Commonality and Development" and "Guelatao".
