She was born in 1963 in Venezuela, she receives her MA in curatorial studies in contemporary art at the center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College, New York. She has been a researcher and curator in contemporary art at the Museo Alejandro Otero, Caracas, Venezuela. She was assistant curator in Latin American Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. 

Currently she is head of the Department of Visual Arts at the Americas Society, New York and she is a member of the Art Forum at the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies, Harvard University, Cambridge.
