The House of Oscar Wilde
Arthur Cravan (Lausanne, Switzerland, 1887- Salina Cruz, Mexico, 1918), poet, pugilist and nephew of Oscar Wilde, produced an abundant series of texts about the Irish writer and dandy. This project, The House of Oscar Wilde, is a mise en scène based on these writings. It will be part of a series of actions made to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Cravan’s disappearance on the Mexican coast.
For Cravan, Wilde was more than a distant family member, the uncle he never met; he was his role model as an artist, a figure whose steps he needed to follow, a ghost to hunt, and this impatient search was going to become a fundamental part of his entire and brief production.
