Grants 2017
Beau Geste Press
Active from 1972 to 1976, the independent printing and publishing house Beau Geste Press was based at Langford Court in rural Devon (England), and brought together the work and ideas of many international artists. Initially conceived by Felipe Ehrenberg and Martha Hellion from Mexico, together with the British art history student David Mayor, the Press was remarkable not only for the quality of material produced, but also for its ability to remain highly connected in spite of its isolated location, using mail art and residencies as a means of disseminating and consolidating international links. This publication will be produced as a continuation of the Study Day that took place on March 29th 2017. This Study Day consisted of invited speakers and authors, including original members of the Beau Geste Press, and invited open discussion concerning the development and relevance of artists’ books during and beyond the active period at Langford Court. Contributors: Polly Gregson, Zanna Gilbert, Karen Di Franco, Mila Waldeck.
